This weekend, I learned that the pastor at a Southern Baptist Church near my house embraces Word of Faith Movement teachers. I was blown away. I was invited to a private Facebook group ran by this pastor. This pastor had posted a mega-church pastor’s clip where he was preaching on the “spirit of Jezebel”. Many of you know that I take issue to that term. It isn’t in the Bible. It comes from Deliverance Ministry. That term was coined by a Deliverance preacher in the 1900s. I started a conversation pointing out the unbiblical nature of the preaching that this Baptist pastor had shared. He then proceeded to tell me that he did, indeed, believe in this type of preaching, along with the various gifts of the spirit that are clearly apostolic in nature and outside the norm for most Baptist doctrine today which is largely cessationist — or at least rejects the Word of Faith Movement and the prosperity name it and claim it gospel. But not this pastor. He went on to tell me that he loves Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, Kenneth Copeland, and Jesse Duplantis.
