Apologetics Resources

Apologetics requires a fundamental understanding of early Church history, particularly the first 500 years. A working knowledge of the Biblical languages (Hebrew and Koine Greek) are required for deeper engagements. The resources below are recommended reading for engaging and defending the faith.

2,000 Years of Christ's Power Vol. 1: The Age of the Early Church

Every generation has an uncanny tendency to view themselves as more enlightened than those that have gone before. The Church certainly has made mistakes all through history - and yet, no insights which we possess would be possible without the efforts, and even some of the mistakes, of our ancestors. The first volume of 2,000 Years of Christ's Power covers the period from the 1st Century AD to the start of the Middle Ages. From the works of Saint Augustine of Hippo to the first apologetic ever penned, this time in history established the foundations of what we take for granted today.

God Has a Wonderful Plan for Your Life: The Myth of the Modern Message

Why do 9 out of 10 children raised in Christian homes leave the Church?

Why do many professing Christians show little or no evidence for their faith?

Why do 80-90% of those making decisions for Christ fall away from the faith?

For decades, the world’s most popular gospel message has been drawing the lost by promising God’s wonderful plan for their life. But behind the facade of the “wonderful plan” message is the reality of the trials, temptation, and persecution that Jesus promised. How can we reconcile the two?

In this life-changing book, best-selling author Ray Comfort explores whether this common gospel approach aligns with real life―and with Scripture. The vital biblical principles he reveals will force you to reexamine your ideas about the gospel―and will teach you how to reach unbelievers the way God intended. A must-read for all who care about the lost.

Heresies: Heresy and Orthodoxy in the History of the Church

“The history of Christian theology is in large part a history of heresies, because Jesus and the claims he made . . . seemed incredible,” writes the author. Heresies presents “the story of how succeeding generations of Christians through almost twenty centuries have tried to understand, trust, and obey Jesus Christ.” Particularly concerned with Christology and trinitarianism, the author calls on the four major creeds of the church―Apostles’, Nicene, Athanasian, and Chalcedonian―to separate orthodoxy from heresy. He acknowledges that heresy has done much more than confuse and divide the church. It has also helped the church to classify orthodoxy. Just as heresy served this purpose historically, so it serves this purpose pedagogically in Heresies.

This volume presents a clarion call to evangelicals to preserve tenaciously “the faith once delivered to the saints.” Frank E. James III wrote in the Journal of the Evangelical Theological Society, “Brown deserves to be commended not only for his insightful scholarship and his readable style but also and more importantly for providing a sorely needed jab to the soft underbelly of modern evangelicalism.”

Scripture Alone: Exploring the Bible's Accuracy, Authority and Authenticity

A denial of the sufficiency of Scripture is at the core of almost every form of opposition to the Christian faith today. Scripture Alone is written to instill a passionate love for and understanding of the Bible. In this defense of God's inspired Word, readers will comprehend what "God's Word"is, the nature of Scripture, the relationship of the Bible to tradition, how to apply Scripture to today's issues, and much more. Included is a faith-inspiring study of the canon--what it is and where it came from.

The Forgotten Trinity: Recovering the Heart of Christian Belief

While many of us struggle to understand it, the Trinity is one of the most important teachings of the Christian faith. It defines God's very essence and describes how he relates to us. And while it can be a difficult concept to get our heads around, it is crucial for believers to understand how God explains his triune nature in his Word.

In this book, James R. White offers a concise, understandable explanation of what the Trinity is and why it matters. While refuting the distortions of God presented by various cults, Dr. White shows how understanding this teaching leads to renewed worship and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christian. And amid today's emphasis on the renewing work of the Holy Spirit, The Forgotten Trinity is a balanced look at all three persons of the Trinity.

May this book deepen your understanding of this important doctrine while also drawing you closer to the triune God himself.

The Way Of The Master

Jesus was not afraid to shake people up. He spoke openly of their sinful nature and the righteousness of God. He forced people to confront their sin head-on, and He brought them face-to-face with their need for salvation — because He loved them. Who do you know who isn't saved? If they died tonight, where would they spend eternity? Do you care? If so, what are you doing to help them? The Way of the Master will put a great tool into your hand and will teach you how to share the message of the gospel simply, biblically, and without fear — the way Jesus did! You will become equipped to confidently lead anyone — friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or stranger on the street — to a clear understanding of repentance and what it means to be a true and active follower of Jesus Christ.
